The Oaks Estate
The Noordhoek valley is, in a word, breathtaking.
At the foot of Chapman’s peak lies this historic quaint and quiet village, with its oak tree-lined roads, nestled between the mountains of Table Mountain National Park, and with arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in the world: the aptly named Long Beach.
This white sandy beach on the Atlantic seaboard is frequented by equestrians, surfers and dog and nature lovers alike, and stretches 8km to the Kommetjie Light House at the far end.

Noordhoek is a close-knit community where local commercial farms and smallholdings continue to operate and sell fresh produce at quaint roadside stalls.
With its wide open spaces and ardent equestrian community, there are, of course, numerous horse riding schools and stables. The Oaks Estate will also have stables on offer for its residents.
Hikers have the luxury of Silvermine Nature Reserve right on their doorstep, as this pristine protected area surrounds Noordhoek.
Out and about in Noordhoek
The Noordhoek Farm Village, a short walk down from the Estate, with its relaxed atmosphere, is not only popular with locals, but people travel from the City Bowl to eat at Café Roux, The Foodbarn Deli Shop, The Toad and Village Sushi. Not to mention it’s home to a delicious ice cream shop. There’s also lots for the kids to do while you shop or eat.
On route to Long Beach is the Red Herring Trading Post which also has a top-rated restaurant – Limoncello (make sure to book!) and a craft micro-brewery called Aegir, named after the owner’s beloved Ridgeback. Their beer is outstanding so make sure to do a tasting. Right next door is Oshun Garden and Interior Shop where you can browse exotic pieces or treat yourself to a pamper at Oshun Hair and Beauty Salon. Noordhoek really does have it all.
Schools
There are numerous pre-primary schools in Noordhoek, and there are two independent private schools – one in Crofters Valley and the other on Main road called EduExcellence which offer smaller classes with personalised attention. The sought-after Generation School is in Kommetjie and there is talk of one coming to Noordhoek in the near future.
Sun Valley Primary is only 5km from Noordhoek and gets rave reviews from both parents and pupils. Two nearby high schools include Fish Hoek High, and Silvermine Academy.
Proximity to Cape Town
Noordhoek is 33km (about half an hour’s drive) from Cape Town and there are two easy routes in:
- Chapman’s Peak Drive
- and Ou Kaapse Weg.
Both routes boast some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.
